Responsibilities

  • Advice and support municipal and community level partners/ actors in planning, conducting and monitoring post-ODF activities and related monitoring
  • Develop, coordinate and monitor MHM related program/ activities of the project
  • Prepare comprehensive MHM training package including school level and school catchment level, and organize regular interaction with and training to school teachers and students, organize regular interaction among school management committees, parents’ associations, mother groups, local clubs etc to break the silence and aware communities
  • Assist the programme in managing S&H M&E and conducting S&H M&E
  • Create strategies, plans, processes and methods in promotion and facilitation of the hygiene education at the level of municipalities/wards, community and schools
  • Integrate gender and social inclusion principles into all sanitation and hygiene related activities, trainings and manuals/guidelines
  • Integrate climate change and disaster risk preparedness dimensions into relevant sanitation and hygiene components
  • Create strategies and plans and capacity building for the improvement of sustainable sanitation coverage and hygiene habits
  • Facilitate the preparation of manuals, guidelines and sanitation promotion materials, which helps for the implementation and promotion of sanitation and hygiene behaviour change
  • Ensure the appropriate social mobilisation and sustainability in institutional latrine construction
  • Prepare training materials and training partners and train stakeholders in sanitation and hygiene; monitor sanitation and hygiene training
  • Develop sanitation/social marketing strategies and other innovative approaches related to the post-ODF services
  • Create conducive environment for WASH business mainly SaniMart and waste management (including fecal sludge management)
  • Any other duties as assigned by the supervisor

Person Specification

Essential 

  • Master’s degree, with substantial relevant experience, in public health, health education, sanitary engineering or other relevant discipline
  • Minimum 7-10 years of relevant work experience
  • Extensive working experience in fields of water supply and sanitation, health education or environmental health.
  • Experience with community mobilisation and behaviour change
  • Experience of water quality issues
  • Fluency in spoken and written Nepali language. High level proficiency in spoken and written English, with good interpersonal, negotiating and persuasive skills 
  • Training and facilitation skills
  • Good communication and report writing skills in both English and Nepali
  • IT skills particularly MS Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Commitment to WaterAid’s values and a working style that reflects these

Desirable

  • Excellent skill in community consultation, organising group discussions with different and diverse group of people, field observation, interviewing with people and facilitating meetings internally and externally
  • Ability to work flexibly, to manage varying competing priorities under your own initiative, meet strict deadlines
  • Experience of managing and supporting staff or volunteers 
  • Experience of working effectively within a culturally diverse and matrix organisation
