Plan International is an independent development and humanitarian organisation working in 51 developing countries that advances children’s rights and equality for girls.

Plan International has been working in Nepal since 1978, helping marginalised children, their families and communities to access their rights to health, education, economic security and protection. Through the support of local partners, Plan International works in 42 districts in Nepal. The main program areas in its new Country Strategy are Early Childhood Development, Education, Youth Economic Empowerment, Child Protection and Resilience, including humanitarian assistance as required.

The project focus lies on the demand for and social accountability of social services by intended beneficiaries increases, with citizens more empowered and better informed to challenge decision-makers and expect fulfilment of their basic constitutional rights.

The aim behind this delivery area is to both increase demand for quality social services by communities and individuals (including from marginalised groups) and amplify citizens’ voice and issues to enhance their agency and their control over social service providers and duty-bearers. Specifically, the objectives are to:

Increase the involvement of civil society movements / platforms / networks in identifying and promoting human development issues, with a focus on Gender, Equity and Social Inclusion (GESI) dimensions of social services.
Increase citizens’ engagement in the planning, prioritising and monitoring the delivery of social services.
